Gang Injunction Hearing Thursday Moved to Bigger Courtroom

Thanks to overwhelming community interest and presence on this issue, Oakland has had to move the hearing location for tomorrow, Thursday, at 2pm, on the Fruitvale gang injunction. Below is a quick summary of what we expect to happen:

The issues that will be discussed will be: (1) whether Jose Luis Fuentes and Michael Siegel should be disqualified as counsel for Abel Manzo; (2) whether the court should provide state-appointed counsel for the defendants; (3) whether the private law firm of Meyers Nave should be allowed to sue the defendants on behalf of the People of the State of California; (4) whether the defaults that Meyers Nave has pursued against the defendants should be set aside; and (5) whether the hearing on the preliminary injunction, currently set for Feb. 16 at 10:00 a.m., should be postponed.

The address is 1225 Fallon Street in the Rene C. Davidson Courthouse, Department 1. If you can come at 1:30 or 1:45 this will help us pack the courtroom with community folks and injunction opponents rather than police. Thanks and see you then!
