Don’t Criminalize our Future: Educate them!
In a time of harsh budget crisis when Oakland schools are struggling to stay open and Oakland teachers are severely under payed; City Attorney John Russo is imposing gang injunctions that are costing the city thousands of dollars.
If we want an end to violence in the streets we need to invest in our young people’s education and in programs and services : not on punitive measures, militarizing the streets of Oakland with more cops, or throwing tax payers dollars at strategies like the gang injunctions which have proven to be ineffective for a quarter of a century.
On March 2nd, the day of Education, we call on teachers and the Oakland community to join the Stop the Injunctions Coalition in calling for a reinvestment in our young people!
Join Teachers and community members all over Oakland on a day of teach-ins about the criminalization of youth and the lack of investment in our education.
Have young people learn about the gang injunctions, how to get involved in fighting to stop them and how to fight for real community solutions to end violence in Oakland
