Public Safety Committee- back in session and feelin the heat

In front of the members of Oakland City Council, Oaklanders demand jobs for public safety.

STIC members and allies stepped up to the mic at this week’s Public Safety Committee to remind the Council of their May 17 agreement to halt all further gang injunctions until there is an independent review of the social and economic impacts of the current Fruitvale and North Oakland injunctions.  As the Council reviewed potentially redevelopment at the Oakland Army Base, STIC members joined with other community members and Councilperson Desley Brooks in demanding that jobs rather than more cops will stem violence in the city. The message from all of Oakland that night was clear: “We want jobs” for real public safety.
